The words "job fair" and "marijuana" being used together in the same headline seem very counterproductive to everything I was taught in school about jobs and using cannabis.  Of course, I was in school a long time ago and things have changed, certainly in the public perception of marijuana.

Southern University in Baton Rouge has announced that it will be hosting a job fair that specifically targets the cannabis industry. Southern and Ilera Holistic Healthcare their partner, host the state's authorized grow site for Louisiana's medical marijuana production.

So, workers are needed to ensure that crop is raised properly and to the standards needed to create the pharmaceutical version of the popular recreational drug.

The job fair will be held at the Ag Center's multi-purpose building on Monday. Interviews will be conducted onsite between the hours of 4 pm and 7 pm. The job fair will seek to place employees for the following positions:

  • 6 Cultivation Technicians
    • 2 - Packing (hiring within 60-90 days out)
    • 2 - Trimmers (hiring within 60-90 days out)
