If you're not familiar with Camp I'm Still Me, you need to be! This special camp is held every June in Scottsville, TX at the Scottsville Camp and Conference Center and is funded solely by private donations.

So what do they do at Camp I'm Still Me? They give young burn victims the chance to feel like they're just everyone else. Can you imagine going through life, especially as a kid, having folks who don't know any better stopping to stare at you because of your scars? That might be more painful than the actual burns.

At this camp, everyone is in the same boat and it's fully staffed with doctors, nurses, physical therapists, social workers, adult burn survivors, and more. Some of the activities include fishing, swimming, boating, playing sports, dancing, etc... You know, all the things that most of us like to do anyways. If you want to find out more about the camp, contact the Regional Burn Center, LSUHSC at (318) 675-6589.

This is the fun part where I get to tell you how you can help these youngsters have the chance to feel 'normal.' And for the record, I really dislike the word normal because, in every other way, these kids are just like you and me. First off, you can make a donation directly through the Percy R. Johnson Burn Foundation, P.O. Box 610-618, 1501 Kings Highway, Shreveport, LA 71130-3932. You can also get more information by calling them at (318) 675-6589.

Another way to help is to join the Brother's Keepers Motorcycle Club and Phoenix Organization of Jefferson, TX for their annual 'Burn Run.' Preregistration is open now through Brother's Keepers and the event will take place on October 9th - 11th, 2020, with live music, a poker run, a 50/50 drawing, bike shows, and more. Registration is $35 per person. You can also register in person Friday, October 9th across the street from Auntie Skinners in Jefferson. When I tell you that these folks are some of the best you'll ever get the chance to meet and hang out with, I mean it. They're truly awesome!

I sincerely hope that you are able to support this event and amazing organization! Sign up now for the East Texas Burn Run 2020
