Three Arrested After Malnourished Baby Found in Home
According to a media release from Kim Myers, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office conducted a welfare check at a home on Goodman Road in Lake Charles, after receiving a complaint on Monday, July 22. They were advised that a set of parents might be smoking illegal narcotics in the home in the presence of a 2-month-old baby girl.
Upon arrival, deputies observed the home wasn't clean and had no running water, food, or baby formula; and there were roaches and flies in the home. "The infant was dirty and was wearing a soiled diaper and had such a severe case of diaper rash that the diaper had to be removed by emergency medical personnel. Deputies observed her to have sores on her body and appeared to malnourished", said Myers.
Crystal J. Roberts, 37, and Herbert J. Thibodeaux, Jr., 34, along with the grandmother, Anthonette K. Thibodeaux, 58, all of Lake Charles, admitted to deputies they smoked synthetic marijuana in front of the baby. A subsequent search of the home resulted in deputies finding illegal narcotics.
After they were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center, Roberts and H. Thibodeaux were charged with 2nd-degree cruelty to a juvenile; illegal use of a CDS in the presence of a juvenile; illegal possession of drug paraphernalia; and illegal possession of synthetic marijuana. Roberts’ bond was set at $16,000 and H. Thibodeaux’s bond was set at $8,500 by Judge Robert Wyatt.
A. Thibodeaux was charged with illegal use of a CDS in the presence of a juvenile; illegal possession of drug paraphernalia; and illegal possession of synthetic marijuana. Her bond was also set at $6,000 by Judge Wyatt.
The baby girl is in the custody of the Department of Child & Family Services after she was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
