Nationally, being a nurse is listed as the hardest job in America and we can certainly understand because the survey was taken in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

The survey, courtesy of SWNS Digital, lists the following as the top hardest jobs of 2020. 1. Nurse 2. Doctor 3. Paramedic 4. Police officer 5. Firefighter 6. Surgeon 7. Healthcare worker 8. Bomb disposal engineer 9. Farmer 10. Prison warden.

Clearly, you can see a pattern, especially when you compare the list to the top hardest jobs in the country in 2019.  According to USA Today, they are as follows: 1. Taxi Driver 2. Logger 3. Newspaper reporter 4. Retail salesperson 5. Enlisted military personnel 6. Corrections officer 7. Disc Jockey 8. Broadcaster 9. Advertising salesperson 10. Painter.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that COVID-19 has really changed people's perceptions of what entails a 'tough' job. With that being said, we opened up the phone lines and these were a few of the toughest jobs in Shreveport/Bossier according to our listeners.

1. Repo agent
2. Bounty hunter
3. Grocery store worker
4. Retail sales at Dillard's
5. Road construction worker
6. Sewer maintenance
7. Electric lineman
8. Truckers
9. Farmers

Strangely enough, we didn't get any calls referencing any jobs in the healthcare industry. I'm going to assume that's because being a nurse, doctor, or other healthcare worker was already listed in the survey for 2020. I also opened the question up to my friends on Facebook. It touched my heart to see how many people thanked our local healthcare professionals, folks who are working to keep things clean and disinfected as well as our truckers and grocery workers. I think they could all use a big 'Thank You!' right about now. Our area essential workers all deserve our gratitude! Check out what folks had to say in the post below and feel free to add your comments. We'd love to hear from you.

And to the folks behind the survey in 2019, you can kiss my big, white hiney! I'm pretty sure making sure folks have the latest information regarding coronavirus or any other crisis in their community is considered pretty darn important! Whew! Now I feel better!
