13 Things You Must Do This Fall in Shreveport-Bossier [LIST]

The fall season is here and in order to enjoy all it has to bring, we've compiled your fall fun list!

Looking to harvest (see what we did there?) all the fun out of fall this year? Well you're in the right place. We've raked up (ok, we'll stop now) all that this season has to offer into one easy-to-accomplish list.

So what do you need to do in order to fall (had to get one more in) in love with fall?

Drink a Beer

From Oktoberfest to specialty pumpkin spice brews, tipping back a cold one is an easy way to enjoy the fall season. It's also one of the tastiest. One way you can knock this item on your fall agenda is to attend Brew in downtown Shreveport on Saturday, October 15. Can't make it? No worries. We've got several great breweries that can satisfy those fall libation cravings.

Dress the Part

This one may have to be put on the back burner for a bit, since we are still in the awkward 85 degree weather in Shreveport-Bossier. Yes, it is chilly in the morning, but unless you're wearing appropriate layers for the day, you are going to boil in those boots, sweaters and scarves like a crawfish.

Walk the Line

Each year Southfield School hosts one of the biggest pumpkin parties in Shreveport-Bossier. It's a combination of jack-o-lanterns, entertainment, food and more. This year the event will take place on Wednesday, October 26 at Betty Virginia Park from 4:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

Get Lost

Corn mazes are easily a tradition for the fall. I'm pretty sure I would have a full-blown panic attack in one of these babies, but it could be a super cute date or family event. There are a few places to knock this one off your list, like DixieMaze Farms or Faith Farms Kernel Kob Corn Maze.

Get to Pickin'

Pretty soon, we'll be seeing pecan pies everywhere we turn at the store. It is the season of pecan picking and whether you make pies, brittle or just toast them, they are a delicious taste of fall. There are a few places where you can pick your own pecans in Shreveport, Bossier and Natchitoches.

Channel Your Inner Betty Crocker

When I think of fall, I think of baking. Warm flaky biscuits in the morning and fresh bread with your chili, or delectable pot pies paired with sweet pies for dessert. Whether it is fall flavored or not, baking is a staple for this time of year. It warms your heart and your home. And don't worry, canned biscuits are fine. We can't all bake from scratch.

Enter if You Dare

Haunted houses. People go ballistic for a good scare at a haunted house. I say "people" because I am not one of them. I don't need to be scared and I'm not entirely sure I won't go to prison due to my actions after being scared. I can see the headlines now... Local Radio DJ Throws Killer Right Hook. However, haunted houses are a specialty this time of year so gather your friends and prepare to be scared.

Carve Away

I have such fond memories of getting together with my family and decorating pumpkins. We didn't do a lot of carving, but we did paint them. Whether you paint or carve yours, this is such a fantastic way to get the family together or host a girls night. You can even host some other couples and have a little competition. I mean, what's fall if you don't come away with pumpkin guts under your nails.

Carnivals and Festivals, Oh My!

Schools and churches across Shreveport-Bossier will be getting into the spirit of the season with carnivals, festivals, cake walks and more. If you've got a kid or are plugged into a local church, be sure to head out for a good time. Also, many church fall festivals are open to the public, so don't be shy.

Patch It Up

Last year, I went with my brother and his family to a pumpkin patch/orchard and it was so fun taking the kids to look for pumpkins. We loved going as kids and being able to experience that with the next generation of our family was priceless. Create some memories of your own by hitting up some local pumpkin patches. Asbury Pumpkin Patch is always a big hit. Just be prepared for your kids to instantly want the largest pumpkin on the lot... You know, the one you can't lift without throwing you back out.

Hayrides

Hayrides are a tradition in my family around Christmas with hot cider, but many enjoy them during the fall season. You can typically jump on one at local pumpkin patches and corn mazes. They're so simple, but boy do they really make it feel like fall.

Go for the Hail Mary

By far, the biggest topic of conversation during fall is football. High school football is a religion in the south, college football is huge in Shreveport-Bossier and NFL is a major debate of whether the Cowboys or Saints are the twin cities' team. If you want to get those fall feelings, take in a football game. I would prefer you do it in person, but if you must, watch one on TV. Or at least have it on in the background while cleaning.

Pumpkin... Everything

As much as you want to be the cool kid who doesn't bow at the altar of pumpkin spice, this is the flavor of the season. From coffee to cake, bread to beer it's all about that pumpkin. So make sure you get a slice of it in any way you can, even if it's just a candle. It doesn't matter how large or small. Trust me, you'll miss it come spring time.
