‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’ Is Definitely Part of Marvel’s Phase 4 Plan

James Gunn is currently in production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, so when recently asked if he’d return to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3, the director seemed uncertain about whether he wants to stick with Marvel or move on to something else. Marvel hasn’t formally revealed any of its Phase 4 films, but we’ve all just assumed that another Guardians sequel is part of that plan — according to Kevin Feige, that assumption is correct.

‘Deadpool’ Writers Explain What Makes Cable Perfect for the Sequel

Three days before Deadpool even hit theaters, 20th Century Fox had already reportedly greenlit a sequel to the Merc With a Mouth’s debut solo outing. The studio had every right to be confident, as Deadpool went on to become the highest-grossing R-rated film worldwide and Fox’s highest-grossing X-Men film to date. Fox hasn’t officially announced Deadpool 2 just yet, but we do know that it’s happening and that X-Force’s Cable will appear in the film. Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have a few details about the sequel, including what makes Cable so special.

‘A Monster Calls’ Trailer: Liam Neeson Is a Big Friendly Giant Tree Monster

We’re getting two fantasy films about little kids and their giant friendly monster pals this year: Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG, starring Mark Rylance as the titular giant, and Juan Antonio Bayona’s A Monster Calls, starring Liam Neeson as the eponymous monster (who is also a very old tree). A new trailer has arrived for the latter, promising a beautiful, melancholy adventure that could very well give Spielberg’s film a run for its money — and that’s no easy feat.

Denzel Washington to Direct, Star in ‘Fences’ Film with Viola Davis

Turn back the clock to 2010, and the hottest ticket on Broadway is a revival of August Wilson’s Pulitzer-winning play Fences, a poignant and daring meditation on race relations in America with a focus on the hardships of the black experience. It has all the necessary qualifications for a bona fide Broadway smash: a handsome pedigree of awards and acclaim (the production took the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play in 2010), urgent social significance, and some Hollywood talent slumming it on the boards in between film projects. Denzel Washington and Viola Davis starred as the married couple at the heart of Fences, winning raves and a Tony apiece, and created a rare sensation that dazzled audiences for thirteen weeks and then vanished.

‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot Rumored as Warner Bros. 2017 Mystery Film

Last week was a pretty busy one over at Warner Bros. — following the underwhelming box office and reactions to Batman v Superman, the studio is reportedly doubling down on its established blockbuster franchises and scaling back on the number of films released each year. They also set release dates for a few untitled projects, with many speculating that at least one of them is Ben Affleck’s solo Batman film. According to a new rumor, we may know what one of the other films could be.

‘Transformers 5’ Hires ‘John Wick’ Cinematographer, Will Probably Look Great

Well, if nothing else, at least we now know Transformers 5 will look really, really good. John Wick cinematographer John Sela has been hired to shoot Michael Bay’s upcoming mega-robot blockbuster sequel — unfortunately for us (but fortunately for him), Keanu Reeves will not be making an appearance, but rest assured that he will be with Michael Bay in spirit, hopefully using his unique brand of zen to guide Bay through this difficult process

Weekend Box Office Report: Melissa McCarthy Shows ‘Batman vs. Superman’ Who’s ‘The Boss’

In most of these Weekend Box Office Reports, it’s clear who the victor will be. Even when the early estimates are a little off and the numbers shift between now and Monday, the basic layout of the top 10 is generally pretty accurate. But this week is a real race and the top two films are neck and neck, and we won’t know who will actually win this thing until tomorrow. But right now, early estimates have Melissa McCarthy’s new comedy The Boss barely edging out Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice by less than $50,000. That’s crazy and, whether it actually claims the top spot tomorrow or not, very bad for Batman v Superman.

David Wain is assembling quite the cast for A Futile and Stupid Gesture, his new National Lampoon biopic for Netflix, which is set to begin filming sometime this month. Melissa McCarthy Re-Teams With ‘The Boss’ Director Ben Falcone for ‘Life of the Party’

Oh, good. For those who are fans of Melissa McCarthy but remain unimpressed by her movie collaborations with husband and director Ben Falcone (me), you may want to turn away now because this news is not going to thrill you (me). Following the success of Tammy and The Boss, McCarthy and Falcone are teaming up for another comedy film, this one in the vein of Rodney Dangerfield’s classic Back to School.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Director Bryan Singer Talks Rebooting Jean Grey and Scott Summers’ Relationship

Most fans were disappointed (to say the least) by X-Men: The Last Stand, which took one of the most popular X-Men arcs — The Dark Phoenix Saga — and turned it into an Evanescence music video that ultimately did Jean Grey and Scott Summers a major disservice. But Bryan Singer is getting another chance with the beloved mutant couple in X-Men: Apocalypse, which will effectively reboot the characters thanks to that timeline reset in Days of Future Past. Singer shares some thoughts on what we can expect from the newer, younger duo, giving us hope for a little Dark Phoenix redemption.
