Today is a very sad day for a lot of people who grew up listening to the music of the 80's. The Beastie Boys, MCA (Adam Yauch) passed away today at the young age of 47. He had been fighting cancer in his salivary glad since 2009 and today he lost his battle with the disease.

If you remember back in the 80s, the Beastie Boys were the group that your parents didn't want you listening to. All because of the bad language, sexual imagery and alcohol and drug use they talked about in their music.  However, that was just the first album.

Over time, they changed their sound numerous times, which included a more Old-school feel when they made their lesser know, but still well loved album Paul's Boutique.  This was one of those albums that Rolling Stone magazine called their best work. Some would agree.

Then came Check Yo Head. This album was different. It was clearly designed to grab the college kids. The Beastie Boys picked up actual instruments and played music. It harkened back to what they did before the first album, Licensed to Ill.

They were a punk band and they made some pretty seedy movies on New York's public transportation (but we won't talk about that).

Over time they had come into the mainstream, or maybe the mainstream came to them, but either way, their videos became something everyone waited to see on MTV. "Sabotage" is still ranked as one of their best songs and best videos.

Then in 2009, the Beastie Boys were about to go back in the studio after making one of their instrumental albums and they had to stop their work and told the world that they had an announcement that they would make on their website and the sad news of MCA's cancer was delivered to us. There was a strong belief that he had a chance at beating it, but it looks as though, today extinguised the light and voice of 1/3 of the Beastie Boys.

Rest In Peace Adam Yauch, or MCA as many of us got to know him on his music.
