Local media got a sneak peek at a new brewery set to open in Bossier City May 1.

Co-owner Jason Lebleu told KEEL News Flying Heart Brewing has occupied the building at 700 Barksdale Boulevard, which was formerly a fire station. This will be Bossier's first brewery.

"The City of Bossier was really supportive of the concept, and the pieces have just fallen into place. It's really been surreal how all of this has come to pass," Lebleu said. "The combination of talents and ideas, and the same kind of overall vision and focus has just let all of the things fall into place for us."

Lebleu said owners have worked hard to preserve the historical value of the old Central Fire Station.

"The fact that this was a fire station meant a lot to not only the City of Bossier, but all of the people that were stationed here," he said. "The firemen, they spent a lot of their lives at the particular station. They wanted to make sure that it was going to be treated properly and we really feel that we have done that."

The brewery features six different brews, from the very light to the very dark, with names like Firehouse Blonde, 6 of Hearts Golden Ale, Louisiana Amber and Milk Maid Stout.

"Our passion was with the darker brews, but we have something for everybody," Lebleu said.

After the May 1 grand opening, the Flying Heart will be open for tours and sampling Fridays and Saturdays from 4 to 9PM.

The brewery is owned by three couples, and pays tribute to Ben Hart's family brand from his home state of Washington. Visit the company's website to find out more.
