DeSoto Parish Corporal Dies Following Medical Emergency

A DeSoto Parish Corporal has tragically passed away following a medical emergency while on-duty.

Late last night, DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office took to social media to provide information on the sad passing or Cpl. Latoya Dedmond. According to DeSoto Parish, Cp. Dedmond was inside of her unit on Highway 5 when the undisclosed medical emergency took place.

At around 5:00 PM, 9-1-1 received a call for help from an unknown caller at that time. During the call, Cpl. Dedmond stated that she was having trouble breathing. Unfortunately, once EMS arrived on the scene, there wasn't much that they could have done. The first responders on the scene worked as hard as they could to save Cpl. Dedmond both on the scene and on the way to the hospital, but she unfortunately lost her life due to the medical event.

Having spent nearly 12 years as a Deputy Sheriff in Corrections for the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, Cpl. Latoya Dedmond began her career with the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office on March 16, 2019.  She was promoted to Corporal on July 06, 2020 due to her dedication and great work ethic.  Cpl. Latoya Dedmond was favored by her co-workers and many inmates for her kind demeanor and smile.  She was just 43 years old.  We thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support that you have shown thus far, and we ask that you continue to keep Cpl. Dedmond's family, friends, and co-workers in your thoughts and prayers.
