The Friday before Easter is always known in the Catholic faith as Good Friday. It is a day of fasting and abstinence for people . This day is known to be a commemoration of the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ on the Cross. It is a day to hear the Gospel of John recounting the last hours of the life of Jesus.  This isn't a true day that includes a Catholic Mass but rather a day of liturgy, on this day ends with Communion.

If you are of the Jewish faith today begins Passover. It is the first of the three major festivals with both historical and agricultural significance. The agriculture portion of this holiday is largely ignored, but it represents the beginning of the harvest season in Israel. The primary observances of Passover (or Pesach) are related to the Exodus from Egypt after generations of slavery. This story is told in Exodus, Ch. 1-15. It is celebrated for 8 days.  It is also a day commemorating the "passover" or sparing of the firstborn child.

Regardless of your religion, this is a very exciting time of year, from a religious and historical point of view. We can learn a lot if we listen and read.
