Have We Gone Too Far with the iPhones and iPads?

While I am an iPhone addict and  love the e-reader that we have, I think some people take it too far. For example, I have family member who take theirs to the bathroom and well...watch the video. My sister did this with her husband and told me about it later. My question is, was my sister the inspiration for this?
