I consider any day a lucky one if I don't have to spend any part of it on Youree Drive in Shreveport or Airline Drive in Bossier City. My heart bleeds for those who have to travel those two nightmares on a daily basis.

However, there's another intersection in Bossier City that's caused many motorists enough problems to bring on its own feelings of dread. And what's that intersection? Benton Road (La Hwy 3) at I-220.

And now, that intersection will be even more difficult to navigate, at least for the short haul.

Please understand, that it's all for the good, but the "good" will be hard to see for a bit. As the Bossier Parish Police Jury is trying to get ahead of the upcoming two year I-20 rehab project, they plan to extend the turn lanes for both north and southbound traffic on Benton Road.

According to the Police Jury, they're expecting this construction to take between 45 and 60 days. While no start date for the project has been published, District 6 Police Jury member Chris Marsiglia said the project hopefully will be finished before the state begins rehabilitation of I-20 through Bossier City. That project is scheduled to go out for bid next month.

Marsiglia says, “We understand the I-20 rehab project will take about two years to complete and it will push a lot of traffic off I-20 onto I-220. We want to have the Benton Road project finished to help handle any increase in the volume of traffic at that intersection. We understand this will be a temporary inconvenience, but it will be a major improvement to traffic flow and public safety.”
