History will record the space shuttle's last launch as Atlantis got underway yesterday for the last flight of the 30-year space program.

Here's video of the picture perfect launch.

The flight will last 12 days. Weather permitting, Atlantis will return to the  Kennedy Space Center, where it will end up on permanent display.

Atlantis carried supplies for the International Space Station, plus the memories  of glory and tragedy for a 30-year program in a spaceship admirers call “the  incredible machine.”

Up to 1 million people poured into the Cape Canaveral area to catch the historic launch, the last big rocket blastoff  expected at space center for perhaps a decade.
