It was my first ever Operation Santa Claus remote and I thank you so much for coming by and dropping off new unwrapped toys and monetary donations for needy children in Shreveport-Bossier. Your generosity was almost overwhelming.

A special thanks to Colette Sikes, of Minden, La., who brought by a $20 donation for Operation Santa Claus in memory of our very own Barney Cannon, longtime morning show host of KWKH, who was also assistant program director at Gap Broadcasting, which is now Townsquare Media.

Barney was a major force behind the radio station's projects, one of which was Operation Santa Claus. In fact, our annual trip to take your gifts to local hospitals in Shreveport-Bossier is named for Barney and is held in his memory.

It's the " Barney Cannon Smile Run" and it's being held Thursday, Dec. 15th.

Your next chance to donate to Operation Santa Claus on location with 96.5 KVKI, the Christmas Station, is this Tuesday, Dec. 6th at Maddox and Hughes Insurance at 401 Hamilton Road. I'll be there along with Erin McCarty from 7-9 am looking forward to meeting you and collecting new unwrapped toys and cash donations.

Another drop off location for Operation Santa Claus toys is the KVKI studios at Townsquare Media located at 6341 Westport Avenue in Shreveport. You can drop them off during regular business hours: Monday through Friday from 8 am until 5 pm.

You can also sponsor a child for Christmas by calling Operation Santa Claus at 687-GIFT, that's 687- 4483. Operation Santa Claus is held each year in conjunction with the Shreveport Police and Fire Departments as well as Bossier and Caddo Sheriff's Departments along with all 6 Townsquare Media radio stations.

Here's a short video of Erin McCarty and Shreveport Fire Inspector Jeff Williams talking on the radio about collecting toys for some 1,000 children with this year's Operation Santa Claus.

If you can't make it out to any of our drop-off locations feel free to make a donation on line by going to the Operation Santa Claus website.
